The Power of Authority

Nearly every day we read or hear about someone, somewhere, getting into some kind of trouble. Of course, there is the unintentional, small incidents that wind up being more of a nuisance than a long-term, stay-on-your-record-forever issue. Maybe you forgot to renew your automobile tag this year and you get pulled over by a police officer. He or she may write you a warning or even a citation for the expired tag. But, more often than not, this is merely a matter of paying the renewal fee or perhaps the fine. Over and done with. However, this is not what I am addressing here. We've all probably been there at one point or another in our lives. One day you're minding your own business and some guy or gal steps up to you and intentionally bumps you or perhaps forces you to do something you didn't want to do. Another bully! Believe it or not, the chances are pretty good that you might encounter a bully at every stage of your life. It may be in school at an early age. It could be during your teenage years. There is a term that is used in life when you do or say the opposite of what most other people are doing or saying. Another, more proper definition states, "To act or behave in opposition or contrary to what is generally understood, assumed, practiced, or accepted." The term to which I am referring is swimming against the stream and it is one that you should probably memorize and repeat to yourself throughout the rest of your life.
